The ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) sponsored agitation against Women's Reservation Bill turned tragic on Wednesday (April 13), when some armed criminals gunned down senior party leader Hanuman Sharan Shulka on the dais in Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place during a BSP rally in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh.
Police sources said the criminals shot dead Mr Shukla, who was sitting on the dais, when district BSP coordinator Chithu Prasad was addressing the gathering under Kotwali police station area.
Shukla, who suffered injuries in the head, was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, police added.
Police have ruled out political rivalry as a motive to the killing and have begun a probe into the matter. The assailants fled the scene after the killing, leaving behind country made pistol used in the crime.
